JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The General Election Commission (KPU) decided to postpone regional elections in five regions that initially scheduled to be held simultaneously with regional elections in other 264 regions this morning (Dec. 9).

Those five regions are Central Kalimantan province, Fakfak regency (West Papua), Manado city (North Sulawesi), Pematangsiantar city (North Sumatra), and Simalungun regency (North Sumatra).

The KPU’s decision to postpone regional elections in Central Kalimantan province and Fakfak regency was issued following the recent verdicts from the High State Administrative Court (PTTUN). While KPU’s decision to postpone regional elections in three other regions was issued following recent interlocutory decision from courts in Manado, Pematangsiantar, and Simalungun.

The KPU has filed an appeal to challenge said verdicts in order to remain implement regional elections in those five regions this year.

According to KPU’s data, a total 100,186,754 voters to give their votes in the Country’s first ever simultaneous regional elections today. At the time of writing, the voters have started to give their votes in regional elections held simultaneously in 8 provinces, 34 municipalities, and 222 regencies around the country.
