JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is expected on Monday (Aug. 3) to examine Governor of North Sumatra Gatot Pujo Nugroho and his wife Evi Susanti as suspects in a bribery scandal implicating infamous lawyer OC Kaligis and judges at the State Administrative Court (PTUN) of Medan, North Sumatra.

Gatot’s lawyer Razman Arif Nasution told Kompas.com this morning that his client and wife will answer KPK’s call.

As reported earlier, Gatot and his wife have been named as new suspects in the case by KPK on Tuesday (July 28). KPK has earlier also asked the Immigration office to ban the couple from overseas travel.

Gatot, a politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), serves as Governor of North Sumatra since 2011 following the court’s verdict to sentence Syamsul Arifin with 6 years in prison. Gatot secured his second term as North Sumatra Governor after winning gubernatorial election back in 2013.

Other than Gatot and his wife, the KPK earlier named six other suspects in the case. They are Head of the PTUN Medan Tripeni Irianto Putro, PTUN Medan’s Judge Amir Fauzi, Judge Dermawan Ginting, clerk Syamsir Yusfan, a lawyer at OC Kaligis Law Office M. Yagari “Gery” Bhastara, and OC Kaligis. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
