JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has just launched an investigation into alleged corruption in South Tangerang city administration and plans to further question the South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany, a sister-in-law of Ratu Atut Chosiyah, Banten Governor and leader of Aburizal Bakrie’s Golkar Party.

Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo, Spokesperson of KPK, said if needed, KPK will conduct an examination on Mayor Airin. For now, he said, KPK still focuses on examining Airin’s subordinates, especially officers at the South Tangerang Health Affairs office.

Johan also explained that the investigation is not correlated with the graft case on the handling of post election disputes in the Constitutional Court which dragged Court Chief Justice Akil Mochtar and Tubagus Chairy Wardhana aka Wawan as suspects.

The investigation into alleged corruption in South Tangerang administration is a new case based on public
report to the KPK, Johan said.

KPK’s investigators, on Tuesday (Oct 22), have raided Mayor Airin’s office and the South Tangerang Health Affairs office to search for evidences and documents related to corruption allegation in the medical devices procurement project of South Tangerang administration. KPK’s investigators reportedly confiscated some documents from those offices.

Previously, KPK has examined Ratu Atut Chosiyah and Serang Mayor Tubagus Haerul Jaman, the step-brother of Ratu Atut, as witnesses for Airin’s husband, Wawan, in bribery case of the handling of Lebak regency post-election dispute. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
