JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has raided the private house of former Governor of Papua Barnabas Suebu, newly elected legislative candidate from Surya Paloh’s Nasdem Party, after being named as graft suspect related to the Rp56 billion procurement project of “detailing engineering design” of the hydro power plant (PLTA) Mamberamo.
KPK’s Spokesperson Priharsa Nugraha confirmed the raid over Barnabas’s house to Kompas.com on Monday (September 8). KPK’s investigators also raided the house of Lamusi Didi, President Director Direktur Utama PT Konsultasi Pembangunan Irian Jaya (KPIJ) and another suspect in the case.
As reported earlier, KPK has named three suspects in the graft case related to procurement project of “detailing engineering design” of the Mamberamo hydro power plant in 2009-2010 period. Those three suspects are Barnabas Suebu, Lamusi Didi, and Jannes Johan Karubaba (former Head of Papua Mining & Energy Office for period of 2008-2011).
KPK has charged the three suspects with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 Section 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). KPK estimates that the State has suffered about Rp35 billion loses from the project.
Barnabas Suebu, 68 years old, served as Papua Governor for two periods (1988-1993 and 2006-2011). The Nasdem Party politician has just been elected in the April 2014 Legislative Election from Papua electoral district. He is expected to be sworn in as member of the House of Representatives (DPR) 2014-2019 period on October 1 alongside with 559 other new members. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
