JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bambang Widjojanto is scheduled on Tuesday (Feb. 3) to undergo a second examination session as a suspect at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation (Bareskrim Polri).

Bambang’s lawyer Nursyahbani Katjasungkana, however, is optimistic that her client will not be detained by the Bareskrim after the Tuesday’s questioning.

As reported earlier, the police named Bambang Widjojanto as suspect on Jan. 23 in the case related to post-election dispute of Kotawaringin Barat regency back in 2010. At that time, Bambang was detained by police before being released two days later following public outcry.

The police investigated the case based on a report filed by Sugianto Sabran, a PDI-P politician and losing regent candidate of Kotawaringin Barat election.

Bambang himself has filed a report against police actions to the National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM). Bambang told Komnas HAM regarding harsh treatment from police officers during his arrest. He also told Komnas HAM that he was handcuffed and verbally assaulted in front of his 10-year-old son, Muhammad Yattaqi.

Komnas HAM, meanwhile, has questioned Deputy Chief of the National Police Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti and Chief of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation (Kabareskrim) Insp. Gen. Budi Waseso over Bambang’s case. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
