JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI)viewed an indication that State TV station TVRI has violated journalistic principles when broadcasted the primary of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democratic Party on Sunday (Sept 15).

“Journalistic principles has been violated (by TVRI),” said Idy Muzzayad, Deputy Chairman of KPI, after an examination session with President Director of TVRI Farhat Syukri.

According to Muzzayad, TVRI is alleged for violating Article 22 of KPI Rules on Broadcasting Guidelines and Article 46 paragraph 10 of the Law No.32/2002 on Broadcasting. He said KPI will continue its investigation by summoning Supervisory Board of TVRI on Thursday (Sept 19).

As earlier reported, KPI summoned Farhat Syukri on Wednesday to provide explanation over the alleged violation.  In the examination session, Farhat defended his decision to broadcast the Democratic Party’s primary. He argued that as an election television station, TVRI wants to provide political education for voters. He promised that TVRI will give same chances for all parties.

“We didn’t receive money (for broadcasting the Democratic Party’s primary),” Farhat argued.

Previously, pressures flowing to KPI to investigate the alleged abuse of power on the broadcasting of the Democratic Party’s primary through TVRI.

While rumors widely circulated on media say there was an order came from the State Palace to TVRI to broadcast the primary.

However, Syarief Hasan, Daily Executive Chairman of Democratic Party, denied and stated the party have never instructed or intervened TVRI on broadcast of the primary. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
