JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) – Kawasaki Motor Cycle and Engine Company is now building new factory in Cibitung, West Java which will produce 140,000 units of motorcycles, Bisnis Indonesia reported this morning.
Hiroshi Takata, president director of Kawasaki, said the project will cost Rp600 billion. The factory is built on 15 hectares land area and is targeted to complete the construction and commence production in 2014.
He said new factory is needed as Kawasaki’s existing factory located in Pulogadung, Jakarta, only produces 100,000 units of motorcycles per year, failed to cover domestic demand which is growing.
Takata added Indonesia ranked no 1 in the world for buying Kawasaki’s product such as New Kawasaki Ninja 250 and New Kawasaki Ninja 250 ABS. Global-wide, demand of Kawasaki Ninja 250 now reaches 65,000 units.
According to data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), Kawasaki sold 61,015 units of motorcycles in the first half of 2012, jumped 30.66% from 46,696 units in the same period of 2011. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
