JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, presidential nominee from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has not yet announced his running mate for July’s presidential race.
Jokowi has over the weekend held a meeting with Megawati Soekarnoputri, PDI-P Chairwoman and patron chief, in Bali. The meeting reportedly discussed the names considered as potential running mate for Jokowi. But unfortunately, there is no official statement regarding the outcome of the meeting.
Pramono Anung, former Secretary General of PDI-P, only said that PDI-P will officially announce Jokowi’s running mate after May 5, 2014, the day the General Election Commission (KPU) schedules to announce the results of its official counting of the legislative election.
As reported earlier, several names have been tipped as Jokowi’s potential running mates. They are Jusuf Kalla (former Golkar Party Chairman and former Vice President), Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama (Jakarta Vice Governor), Tri Rismaharini (Surabaya Mayor), Abraham Samad (KPK Chief), Mahfud MD (former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court), Gen. (ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu (former Army Chief of Staff/KSAD), Gen. Moeldoko (current Commander of the Military), Hatta Rajasa (PAN Chairman), Agus Martowardojo (Governor of Bank Indonesia), etc.
Previously, some PDI-P leaders have revealed that their party will announce Jokowi’s running mate last week. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
