JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo won presidential election as on Tuesday (July 22) evening the General Election Commission (KPU) officially announced the PDI-P politician as the presidential elect.
In a plenary meeting, the KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik said Jokowi won the election with 8.4 million or 6.3% margin over Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi and his running mate Jusuf Kalla attended the plenary meeting while Prabowo did not as he rejected the election and quit of the vote recapitulation.
According to the final results of KPU’s official counting, Jokowi won the election with 70,997,833 votes or 53.15% of the total 133,574,277 valid votes. Prabowo Subianto, meanwhile, got 62,576,444 votes (46.85%).
“Now, let’s put behind the Number One and Number Two. Let’s return to unity, Indonesia Raya. Three finger salute, the unity of Indonesia (pointed to the third principle of Pancasila, which is the philosophical basis of the Indonesia state),” shouted Jokowi in his victory speech.
The Constitutional Court is now waiting for any lawsuit from Prabowo’s side to challenge the results. While the inauguration of new president and new vice president of the Republic itself is scheduled for October 20, 2014. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
