JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is visiting the offices of the Nadhlatul Ulama (NU) and the Muhammadiyah respectively, Wednesday (Dec. 24) morning. NU and Muhammadiyah are two largest Muslim organizations in the country.
After a meeting with NU’s leaders, Jokowi told the press that he asked the views of NU’s leaders about death punishment to drug convicts and also radicalism in Indonesia.
At the time of writing, Jokowi is on his way to the office of the Muhammadiyah. Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Religious Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.
Three days later Jokowi is scheduled to visit Papua to attend a joint national Christmas celebration on Dec. 27.
And as reported earlier, President Jokowi has ruled out to grant clemency for 64 death-row drug convicts.
Five out of 64 death-row drug convicts are expected to be executed this month by the Attorney General Office (AGO). The Supreme Court (MA) has given permission to the AGO to execute the death sentence for 5 convicted drug dealers. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
