JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Popular Jakarta governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, considered as the strongest candidate to win next year’s presidential race, said next week local government would kick off construction of people’s market in five areas in Jakarta.
“Construction will take five months,” he said, adding construction will be started at the same time in five areas.
The proposed markets are Manggis and Pesanggarahan in South Jakarta, Nangka Bungur in Central Jakarta, and Bawang market in North Jakarta. These markets will be place for existing street vendors operating in the surrounding areas.
Djangga Lubis, CEO of Pasar Jaya, a company owned by Jakarta administration, said vendors will not be charged with rental and operating costs, because of their small size of business.
