JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – National media speculate that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will announce his decision on either inaugurate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as new National Police Chief or withdraw Budi Gunawan’s nomination on Wednesday (Feb. 18).
President Jokowi and the State Palace, however, have not made any statement yet on the matter.
Secretary General of Nasdem Party Patrice Rio Capella earlier claimed that President’s decision on Budi Gunawan’s nomination has been taken last night.
The Police Chief nominee Budi Gunawan was named as a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to suspected transactions found in his bank accounts.
Budi, however, fought back by filing a pre-trial lawsuit against KPK’s decision. Latest, presiding judge Sarpin Rizaldi of the South Jakarta District Court ruled that KPK’s decision on naming the three-star police general as graft suspect is baseless and illegitimate.
