JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) publicly declared their commitment to push the House of Representatives (DPR) to pass the government regulation in lieu of law No. 1/2014 (or known as the Direct Regional Election Perpu) for maintaining direct regional election.

The commitment was reached in their meeting at the State Palace on Monday (Dec. 8) noon. “We have similar position, we want to make sure Perpu (No. 1/2014) can be accepted by the DPR,” said SBY, who is also Chairman of the Democratic Party.

President Jokowi, meanwhile, opened the possibility about further cooperation between the Great Indonesia ruling coalition (KIH) and the Democratic Party at the DPR.

As reported earlier, SBY visited the State Palace Jakarta to hold a meeting with President Jokowi. After a meeting with Jokowi, SBY also met Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential’s office.

DPR is expected to either accept or reject Perppu 1/2014 in the next House plenary session in January 2015. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
