JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has reminded the House of Representatives (DPR) that by law, they must elect new five commissioners of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) based on the shortlist previously submitted by the President.
On the sidelines of an event held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Thursday (Nov. 26), President Jokowi told the press that the government is now awaiting for the DPR’s decision on the shortlist of KPK’s commissioner candidates.
But Jokowi reminded the DPR that accordance to the KPK Law No. 30/2002, the DPR must elect new five KPK’s commissioners based on the President’s shortlist.
As reported earlier, civil society groups has continued to push the DPR to soon elect new five KPK’s commissioners as the current KPK’s commissioners will end their term by December 16, 2015. The DPR Commission III, however, has delayed its decision on whether to reject and returning said shortlist to Jokowi or to proceed selection process of the KPK’s new leaders by conducting a fit and proper test over the candidates.
Actually, the DPR already received the shortlist of eight KPK’s commissioner candidates from Jokowi since September 2015. The DPR, moreover, has also received two other KPK’s commissioner candidates from Jokowi’s predecessor, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), since December 2014. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
