JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The ruling coalition of President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will once again compete with opposition group of losing president candidate Prabowo Subianto in the election of new leadership of the 2014-2019 People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Monday (Oct. 6).
Jokowi’s ruling coalition reportedly will nominate a person from the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) for becoming the new Speaker of the MPR.
Prabowo’s opposition group, meanwhile, reportedly will put someone from President SBY’s Democratic Party at the top position of the MPR. Syarief Hasan, Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, and EE Mangindaan from Democratic party are mentioned as candidates.
The 2014-2019 MPR consists of 692 seats, out of which 560 seats from the House of Representatives (DPR) and 132 seats from the DPD. Similar to the structure of the DPR leadership, the MPR is led by a Speaker, helped by four deputies.
Prabowo’s opposition (Gerindra, Golkar, PKS, PAN, PPP, and Democratic Party) holds 352 out of the total 692 MPR members or 50.87%. While Jokowi’s coalition (PDI-P, PKB, Nasdem, and Hanura) only has 208 MPR members (30.06%). (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
