JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is expected to hold a limited cabinet meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla and members of the Working Cabinet to discuss the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project Wednesday (May. 20).

The cabinet meeting is scheduled at around 1:30 pm of Jakarta time at the Presidential office. The progress of the China and Japan’s investment in Indonesia will be also discussed in the meeting.

As reported earlier, President Jokowi has asked the Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama to kick off the groundbreaking of the LRT project this year. The President wants the LRT project to be finished before the 2018 Asian Games.

The plan is to build the LRT in seven corridors in Jakarta as follows: Kebayoran Lama-Kelapa Gading (21.6 km), Tanah Abang-Pulo Mas ((17.6 km), Joglo-Tanah Abang (11 km), Puri Kembangan-Tanah Abang (9.3 km), Pesing-Kelapa Gading (20.7 km), Pesing-SoekarnoHatta Airport (18.5 Km), and Cempaka Putih-Ancol (10 km).

The cost to building the LRT in said seven corridors is estimated at around Rp35 trillion. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
