JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo shows his calm response over the potential hard challenge from the opposition group at the House of Representatives (DPR).
The outgoing Jakarta Governor shared his beliefs about political stability of the new government.
Jokowi, as quoted by Kompas.com on Monday (Sep. 29), said he has faced similar situation in Solo and Jakarta whereas he leads the regions with small minority support from the parliament. So therefore, he’s ready to face political dynamics at the DPR.
Concern on political stability of Jokowi’s new government has been increased in the past few days, especially after the victory of the opposition group at the DPR led by Prabowo Subianto’s Red-and-White coalition over Jokowi’s coalition on the passage of the controversial Regional Election Bill (RUU Pilkada).
Jokowi’s coalition will only control 207 out of 560 seats at the DPR or about 36.96%. Far below Prabowo’s Red-and-White coalition (plus President SBY’s Democratic Party) with combined 353 seats (63.04%). (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
