JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Dynamic duo, Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and Vice Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama, must take more efforts for overcoming the gridlock in Jakarta capital city as new policy for low cost green cars (LCGC) issued by the central government will exacerbate the current gridlock of Jakarta’s traffic.
Jokowi and Ahok have no options, such as rejecting the policy, but they must have prepared additional policies to mitigating the impact on LCGC policy on traffic gridlock.
“We have sent a statement of rejection to the Vice President of Indonesia (Boediono) on the policy (of low cost green cars,” said Jokowi at the City Hall.
“We will kick back (the impact of LCGC) policy with odd-even license plate policy, ERP (Electronic Pricing Road) system, and also high parking tax,” Jokowi added.
Both Jokowi and Ahok worry that LCGC policy will exacerbate gridlock of Jakarta’s traffic.
Ahok revealed that LCGC policy would be contraproductive with the spirit of the central government on resolving the city’s gridlock.
The Gerindra Party politician added that Jakarta’s administration would speed up its plan to improve the services of mass transportation in the city to attract people to use public transportation.
As earlier reported, the central government through the Ministry of Industry has confirmed that the government has issued a regulation on the production of low cost green cars.
Minister of Industry MS Hidayat, who is also politician from Golkar Party, revealed that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has signed the regulation on May 23, 2013.
Hidayat said that with the issuance of the regulation, car manufacturers could start producing low cost green cars. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
