JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has again ordered the law enforcement institutions and related ministers to take firm action over companies allegedly causing forest fires in Sumatra, including the revoking of said companies’ licenses.
President Jokowi delivered the order during his visit in Doha, Qatar, Monday (Sep. 14). The President is in his five-day working visit in the Middle East in order to, among others, inviting middle east businessmen to make investment in Indonesia. Prior to visit Qatar, he visited Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
President Jokowi, moreover, also ordered Minister of Environment & Forest Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Commander of the Military General Gatot Nurmantyo, Chief of the National Police General Badrodin Haiti, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei along with all related regional leaders and heads of regional disaster mitigation agencies (BNPDs) in Sumatra to continue to resolve problems caused by forest fires.
The President has also ordered the military (TNI) to deploy 1,000 additional officers to extinguish fires in several locations in Sumatra. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
