JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Former acting deputy chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo has today (Jan. 12) been appointed as the new spokesperson of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

It was President Jokowi himself who confirmed to the press during the press briefing at the State Palace Jakarta regarding Johan’s appointment. Johan also present in said press briefing.

Previously, Johan ended his term as acting KPK deputy chief on December 16, 2015. Johan, moreover, officially resigned from the KPK since December 22, 2015, after 12 years of service.

He joined the KPK in 2003, a year after the KPK was established, as director of Education & Public Service. Three years later, he became the KPK’s spokesperson and held the position for ten years until 2015. He was also appointed as KPK’s deputy of prevention in October 2014 while remaining KPK’s spokesperson.

The University of Indonesia’s (UI) School of Engineering graduate was a journalist and an editor at Tempo prior to joining the KPK. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
