JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Legendary singer and song writer Iwan Fals welcomed a surprise visit from Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Jakarta Governor and presidential hopeful from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), on Thursday night (April 3).
The two popular figures then reportedly made a warm and embracing conversation, also enjoyed a nice dinner, at Iwan Fals’ private residence in Leuwinanggung, Cimanggis, Depok, West Java.
Jokowi was accompanied by Sidarto Danusubroto (PDI-P senior politician and Speaker of the People Consultative Assembly/MPR) and Eva Kusuma Sundari (PDI-P lawmaker at the House Commission III).
Told to the press Friday (April 4), Eva revealed that Jokowi’s visit to Iwan Fals’ private residence was aimed to get inputs from the charismatic singer about the country’s problems and the national leadership issue.
Iwan Fals, meanwhile, said that he and Jokowi are friends since Jokowi served as a Mayor of Surakarta in Central Java. Iwan, however, said he wants to remain neutral ahead of the July’s presidential race.
The charismatic singer has millions of fans across the country associated in the so-called “Orang Indonesia”(OI).
On the other side, Jokowi has cemented the perception on him as a demigod presidential candidate as shown by various surveys. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
