JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sworn in Irene Manibuy as Vice Governor of West Papua at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (May. 27).

According to Presidential Decree No. 38/E/2015, Irene will serve as West Papua Vice Governor until 2017 replacing Rahimin Katjong, who passed away on Jan. 22, 2015, due to stroke.

Previously, Irene’s appointment as West Papua Vice Governor has been determined in the plenary session of the West Papua Legislative Council (DPRD) on Apr. 28, 2015.

Born in Teluk Bintuni, West Papua, on Feb. 19, 1962, Irene is known as a politician from Golkar Party. She was Golkar lawmaker at the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX for the period of 2009-2014. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
