JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The President Joko Widodo emphasized that infrastructure development is key to Indonesia in facing the competition era. The infrastructure availability, he added, would improve productivity and competitiveness.
“With the infrastructure, the efficiency will increase as the price of goods is cheaper; transportation and logistics costs will also be much cheaper,” he said while giving a speech at the launch of the Investment Program Creating Jobs Phase III, in Wonogiri, Central Java, on Friday (Jan. 22).
However, to boost competitiveness, infrastructure development should be coupled by an increase in work ethic. This must be made on all aspects, including the government. This can be achieved, among other, by simplifying the investment licenses.
“I want the license business is just take couple hours,” he said as quoted by the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat.
The president added that the government is focusing on efforts to simplify investment licensing procedures to improve ease of doing business in Indonesia. With such effort, the president hoped, Indonesia’s rank in starting business would enhance from year to year.
As known, Indonesia is ranked 109th out of 189 countries in ease of doing business for 2016. “It was up and down between 110-120 (rank). I hope it will rise to 40 (rank),” he said.
Therefore, to achieve the target, the government will simplify the problematic and difficult regulations. President said that there are about 42 thousand regulations and three thousand local regulations, so the simplification of regulations are urgent.
“The complicated regulations which adverse and confuse the public must be immediately revoked,” he added.
