NEW YORK (Yosefardi) – Vice President Jusuf Kalla revealed the government’s plan to propose Indonesia as a non-permanent member of the United Nations’ (UN) Security Council in 2019, Kompas.com reported.
VP Kalla said that Indonesia is now trying to lobby other countries, including those from the European Union, to support Indonesia’s proposal.
In his view, Kalla said that it’s necessary for Indonesia to become a part of the UN Security Council in order to reform the UN as well as to keep promote peace, justice, and human rights among countries in the world.
Kalla, moreover, said that Indonesia will continue to talk about reforming the UN, especially related to the effort of eliminating a veto power owned by permanent members of the UN Security Council. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
