JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Maria Elizabeth Liman, President Director or chief executive officer (CEO) of PT Indoguna Utama, is facing 4.5 years jail term charge for allegedly bribing Luthi Hasan Ishaaq, former Chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), on beef import quota scandal.

The bribe aimed to influence Minister of Agriculture Suswono, who is also PKS politician, to increase the beef import quota for Indoguna.

In addition, the prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also demanded Maria to pay Rp200 million in restitution or serve another additional four months jail term.

On the Tuesday’s trial (April 22), the KPK’s prosecutor team concluded that Maria was guilty of bribing Luthfi with Rp1.3 billion.

According to the KPK’s prosecutor team, the Rp1.3 billion bribe money was given to Luthfi through Luthfi’s aide, Ahmad Fathanah, as a part of Rp40 billion fee promised by Indoguna for Luthfi’s help.

Previously, both Luthfi and Fathanah had been sentenced to 16 years in jail respectively. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
