JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Heavy equipment production declined 5% to 1165 units in first quarter of this year, compared to 1234 units in previous quarter (October-December 2013).
Local producers contributed 55-60% of total market supply while the rest was covered by imported products which imposed no import duty.
Pratjoto Dewo, chairman of Indonesia Heavy Equipment Association (Hinabi), demands the new government to provide such an equal treatment to local industry and imported products, mostly from America and China.
During 2013, the market supply of heavy equipment reached 13,000 units while local producers only supplied 6127 units. While the total production capacity reached 10,000 units per year.
The heavy equipment sales to infrastructure sector reached 30%, plantation 20-25%, and mining 40%.
