JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Thousands of protesters from the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) and 89 other hardline Islamic groups associated in Jakarta Society Movement (Gerakan Masyarakat Jakarta) continue staging a rally on Monday (Dec. 1) to reject Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, sworn in as new Jakarta Governor last week, Detik.com reported.

The protesters are now staging a rally in front of the Jakarta city hall after earlier staging a rally in front of the casino online office of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD).

Chairman of FPI Habib Rizieq said the protesters proclaimed that they have inaugurated Fahrur Rozi Ishak as their own version of Jakarta Governor.

Ahok, however, responds the rally with a calm manner.

Security forces, meanwhile, are on a high alert to secure the rally. Hundreds of joint officers from police, military, and the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) have been deployed surrounding the city hall and the DPRD Jakarta.

As reported earlier, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sworn in Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama as new Governor of Jakarta on Nov. 19, at the State Palace. Ahok, a Christian Chinese descent, made a history as the first hinese Governor of the capital city of Jakarta.(haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
