JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Former President BJ Habibie, who is also one of senior figures within the Golkar Party, reportedly supported the plan to hold a new chairmanship congress (Munas) of Golkar to reunited the Party and to elect a new party chairman in the near future this year, Kompas.com reported.

On Thursday (Jan. 7) at his private residence in Kuningan, South Jakarta, Habibie received the visit of other Golkar’s senior figures and Golkar’s young politicians associated in the so-called Golkar youth axis. They are Muladi, Akbar Tandjung, Ahmad Dolly Kurnia, Ace Hasan Syadzily, Melki Lakalena, and Fayakhun Andriadi.

After said meeting, Habibie told the press about his three visions on the new Golkar. One of those is Golkar must no longer depending on a few of its elites that lead the Party with just rely on money.

The Golkar’s senior figures and young politicians recently pushed the Party for holding a new Munas immediately in January or February 2016 to elect a new chairman for the Party. But Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie faction, according to Nurdin Halid, refused the idea and insisted that the Party’s Munas cannot be hold before 2019. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
