JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) mulls to facilitate the merger of the entities on banking sector as two banks are proposing the consolidation.

The consolidation of banking sector is needed ahead of entering integrated market of Southeast Asian era by 2015.

Media reported PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (BTPN) plans to acquire 70% shares of PT Bank Sahabat Purba Danarta (Bank Sahabat). Bank Mestika Dharma is also a target of acquisition by undisclosed bank.

Meanwhile the Lower House of Representatives (DPR) had approved the proposal of state-owned banks to cut dividend payout ratio to 25% this year, from earlier 30%.

The government might also welcome as the state banks are now facing the liquidity concern. The government earlier targets the state banks to contribute dividend of Rp10.3 trillion this year.
