JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The government of Indonesia decides to postpones the high-speed rail system connecting Jakarta and Surabaya, as it will focus to build the railway infrastructure projects outside of Java.
Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan said for next 5 years, the government will not build high-speed rail system in Java island, but ready to support if the private sector initiated the said project for Java area.
The 750 km high-speed Jakarta-Surabaya rail project would cost for Rp150 trillion.
Ignasius Jonan said the goverment will build double-track rail system connecting Rantau Prapat-Kertapati (Palembang) for 1400 km, railway connecting Pontianak-Balikpapan, Makassar-Pare pare, Makassar-Manado, Sorong-Manokwari.
Railway project in Sumatera will cost Rp41.1 trillion, Kalimantan Rp35 trillion, and Sulawesi Rp20 trillion.
