JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The administration of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo assures that the central government will continue its policy to sink foreign illegal fishing ships captured in Indonesian waters in order in combating illegal fishing.
Minister of Maritime and Fishery Susi Pudjiastuti revealed on Wednesday (Dec. 10) that the government is scheduled to sink another foreign illegal fishing ships on Dec. 15. Former Susi Air Boss, however, is still reluctant to reveal number of ships and the countries that ships come from.
Minister Susi also makes sure that among foreign illegal fishing ships that captured in Indonesian waters will be given to Indonesian fisheries.
Furthermore, Susi said the government has cooperated with the Supreme Court to establish the so-called Fishery Court. She said the Fishery Court will be set up in Ambon, Maluku.
As reported earlier, the government through the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has sunk three Vietnamese illegal fishing boats in Anambas Sea, Kepulauan Riau, on Dec. 5.
President Jokowi earlier said his order to sink foreign fishing ships captured in Indonesian waters is a firm order to show that Indonesia is now serious in combating illegal fishing. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
