SYDNEY (Yosefardi) – Gosowong gold mine in Halmahera, Maluku produced 71,227 ounces of gold in the quarter ended September 30, 2013, dropped by 23% from the previous quarter.
“That was due to the scheduled mining of lower grade stopes in the Kencana and Toguraci underground orebodies,” said Newcrest Mining Ltd in its quarterly report.
Gosowong gold is operated by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, where Newcrest controls majority shares, while Aneka Tambang has 25% shares.
In the previous quarter, Gosowong produced 92,896 ounces of gold. “Mill throughput increased 5% and gold recoveries were slightly higher than the previous quarter. Production in the second half of the financial year is expected to be higher in line with higher grade ore in the mine plan,” Newcrest added.
