SEMARANG (Yosefardi) – Ganjar Pranowo, politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has on Friday (Aug 28) been sworn in as new Governor of Central Java, the third largest province in the country.

The inauguration’s ceremony has been held this morning at around 8.55 am at the Central Java Legislative Council (DPRD). Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi lead the ceremony.

The 45-year-old politician Ganjar Pranowo won the gubernatorial election with a landslide victory securing 48.82% votes, over incumbent Governor Bibit Waluyo and Hadi Prabowo.

Ganjar, who graduated from Gadjah Mada University’s law school in 1995, obtained his master degree in politics from University of Indonesia. As a student and activist from the Indonesian Nationalist Student Movement (GMNI), he was actively planned many mass rallies with GMNI in Yogyakarta.

And after graduating from law school, Ganjar went to Jakarta and start developing a network with his seniors at GMNI. In early 1997, those networks eventually delivered him to meet Megawati Soekarnoputri and later became a member of PDI (previous name of PDI-P).

Ganjar is considered as one of rising star in Indonesian politics. Similar with his party colleague, popular Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, Ganjar also enjoy rock music. He said he like a lot to listening to rock music like Dream Theater, Metallica and Guns n’Roses. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
