JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The CEO of PT Freeport Indonesia Rear Air Marshall (ret) Maroef Sjamsoeddin admitted to the ethics trial of the House of Representatives’ ethics council (MKD DPR) on Thursday (Dec. 3) for wiretapping his conversation with House Speaker Setya Novanto and businessman Mohammad Reza Chalid.

“No one ordering me, no one asked me (to wiretap conversation with Novanto dan Reza). It was my own initiative to record with my mobile phone,” Maroef explained.

“I think it was necessary as part of my accountability,” Maroef added.

The former deputy head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) also told the trial that he has only provided a copy of said wiretape to Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said. Those wiretap, Maroef confirmed, is the same wiretap aired by the ethics council last night.

On the time of writing, the Thursday’s trial is underway. The trial has been started since around 1:35 pm of Jakarta time, 35 minutes late from initial schedule. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
