JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The hardline Islamic group Islam Defenders Front (FPI) has filed a report to the Jakarta Police Office on Wednesday (Nov. 12) against Acting Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, Kompas.com reported.
According to Coordinator of the FPI’s legal team Sugito Atmo Pawiro, FPI reported Ahok to the police for defaming and slandering FPI related to its latest rally staged on Monday. As reported earlier, thousands of protesters from FPI members and another Islamic groups have staged a rally to reject the upcoming inauguration of Ahok as new Jakarta Governor.
Ahok, meanwhile, answered the rejection by sending a letter to Minister of Law & Human Rights proposing a bid to disband FPI to the State prosecutor. Ahok said FPI’s protests was offensive and against the 1945 Constitution.
Ahok, in his letter, mentioned that accordance to Article 70 Paragraph 1 of the Mass Organization Law No. 17/2013, the disbandment’s proposal on a mass organization can be proposed by the State prosecutor to the State District Court over the request from the Minister of Law & Human Rights.
