JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Taiwan-based manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd, also known as Foxconn Technology, plans, in partnership with DKI Jakarta provincial government, to build information technology (IT) and mobile phones factory in Jakarta area.
DKI’s governor Joko Widodo said his side will provide 200 hectares land area in Marunda, North Jakarta, for Foxconn. Both parties had signed partnership agreement Friday last week (Feb 7). The memorandum of understanding (MoU) is scheduled to sign in April this year.
Media earlier reported Foxconn plans to invest US$10 billion within 5 years, partnered with ICT retailer Erajaya Swasembada (ERAA), operator of Erafone outlets. Both companies will supply over 50 million smartphones in Indonesia starting this year, 20% of total demand of 250 million units of smartphones per year.
Foxconn also was in talk with PT Jababeka Tbk (KIJA) for acquiring land in Jababeka industrial estate. It was also in negotiation with Polytron, electronic producer owned by Djarum Group, for producing local smartphones.
