JAKARATA (Yosefardi) – Former Mayor of Makassar Ilham Arief Sirajuddin has failed to answer the call from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for questioning session on Monday (June 29).

KPK’s Spokesperson Priharsa Nugraha revealed that Ilham didn’t answer the KPK’s call due to the former mayor is now on his minor pilgrimage hajj (umrah).

As reported earlier, KPK has just renamed Ilham as a graft suspect in a Rp38.1 billion corruption case of the Makassar PDAM tap water company.

Previously, KPK named Ilham as suspect in the case, but the South Jakarta District Court ruled in favor to Ilham in a pre-trial petition against the KPK early this month. The Court concluded that KPK’s decision to name Ilham as a graft suspect is illegitimate due to lack of evidences.

Ilham, who is Chairman of the Democratic Party’s South Sulawesi chapter, served as Makassar Mayor for two periods (2004-2009 and 2009-2014). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
