JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Former Deputy Senior Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Miranda Swaray Goeltom has been officially released from jail on Tuesday (June 2) after finishing her three years prison sentence in the 2004 travelers checks bribery case.
Previously, Miranda was detained at the Women Penitentiary in Tangerang, Banten since 2012. She was sentenced to three years after the Jakarta Corruption Court found her guilty in bribing lawmakers at the 1999-2004 House of Representatives (DPR) in the election of DGS BI back in 2004.
Miranda’s partner in crime in bribing lawmakers, Nunun Nurbaeti, meanwhile, was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail.
This bribery case also dragged down tens of lawmakers from several political parties as graft convicts. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), however, failed to reveal the masterminds of the bribery case. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
