JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Anas Urbaningrum, graft suspect and the ousted Chairman of Democratic Party, is facing the first trial held on Friday (May 30) on a gratification case related to Hambalang sport center project.
At the time of writing, the trial was on going held at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
The prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has charged Anas with Article 11 and Article 12 letter a and b of the Anti-Corruption Law.
The prosecutor team accused Anas for receiving gratification in a form of one Toyota Harrier car and Rp2.2 billion cash money as a part of fee from Hambalang project.
Furthermore, the prosecutor team also charged Anas with the Anti-Money Laundering Law.
Anas, meanwhile, has denied all accusations against him. Anas even urged the KPK to summon President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his younger son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono aka Ibas, for a questioning in the investigation into allegation of illicit money flowing from Hambalang project to the congress of Democratic Party back in 2010.
Anas had been detained by KPK as graft suspect in Hambalang case since Jan. 10, 2014. Previously, he has resigned as Chairman of Democratic Party following KPK’s decision on naming him as graft suspect on Feb 22, 2013.
Later, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono took over the party chairmanship from Anas. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
