JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – More than just winning the next year’s elections, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is targeting to harvest 27% votes in 2014’s legislative election to make sure the party secured the ticket of endorsing its own presidential & vice presidential pair candidate and as well as controlling the Parliament.

The target to control 152 seats from 560 total seats in the House of Representatives (DPR), was directly delivered by the patron leader of PDI-P, Megawati Soekarnoputri, in the closing of the three days party’s national leadership meeting held at Eko Park Convention in Ancol, North Jakarta.

“I’d ever suffered a grief when I must find additional votes by establishing coalition with another political party to pass the required (presidential threshold),” said Megawati referring to her past experience in 2009 presidential election.

“The target is based on a comprehensive calculation considering various fundamental variables,” Megawati’s daughter Puan Maharani added.

The meeting itself ended without nomination of Jokowi for next year’s presidential race. But as reported earlier, Megawati has sent out more signals that she might not run as president candidate, instead she might nominate popular Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo. Megawati clearly stated that she supports regeneration of leadership even though she didn’t directly mention Jokowi as president candidate from PDI-P.

In the meeting, regional leaders of PDI-P have clearly expressed their supports for Jokowi’s presidential candidacy. They are expecting the party will declare Jokowi’s presidential bid early next year in the 40th party’s anniversary scheduled for January 10, 2014. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
