JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The disgraced former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar, who has been charged for accepting bribes in connection with election disputes in fifteen regencies and also indicted for money laundering, is facing his verdict trial on Monday (June 30).
Taking place at the Jakarta Corruption Court, the trial as scheduled started around 1:00 pm of Jakarta time.
As reported earlier, the prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has demanded the panel of judges to drop a life time jail sentence on Akil and ordered him to pay Rp10 billion in fine.
In addition, KPK’s prosecutors also asked the panel of judges to revoke Akil’s constitutional rights to vote and to be voted in any election in the country.
Akil has been named as graft and money laundering suspect for accepting bribes in connection with election disputes in Lebak and Gunung Mas regencies and thirteen other regencies. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
