JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II would expectedly on Wednesday (Feb 26) hold a joint meeting with Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi, East Java Governor Soekarwo, and the Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini for discussing the recent dispute surrounding the assignment of Wisnu Sakti Buana as new Vice Mayor of Surabaya.
PDI-P, meanwhile, rejected the meeting and declared the dispute had been settled and viewed unnecessarily to bring the issue to the House forum.
Head of the House Commission II Khatibul Umam Wiranu confirmed to Kompas.com that the meeting will be held tonight.
Deputy House Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso added that the House also invites all Heads of factions at the Surabaya’s Legislative Council (DPRD) and the election committee of new Vice Mayor of Surabaya to present in the meeting.
Priyo, Golkar Party politician, said the House has authority to oversee regional administration affairs and if necessary the House needs to help all related parties to find the solution for such an dispute seen as the national issue.
PDI-P lawmaker Arif Wibowo, meanwhile, rejected the House’s plan to intervene the dispute as his party had settled that issue.
PDI-P Secretary General Tjahjo Kumolo added Risma and Wisnu had on Sunday (Feb 23) met PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and had settled the dispute accordingly.
Risma got a huge media coverage, including an exclusive interview with Metro TV, in the past two weeks following her plan to resign as Surabaya Mayor. The dispute on the assignment of Wisnu Sakti Buana as new Vice Mayor of Surabaya was reportedly one reason behind Risma’s intention to resign.(haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
