JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Fadli Zon, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), stated that the DPR may summon Minister of Communication & Information Rudiantara regarding the latter’s decision to block certain websites linked to muslim groups.
Fadli, politician from Gerindra Party, one of members of the Red-and-White opposition group (KMP), said the DPR will ask an explanation from Minister Rudiantara.
As reported earlier, Spokesperson of the Communication & Information Ministry Ismail Cawidu delivered to the press the list of said 22 websites on Monday (Mar. 30). The decision to block said websites is accordance to the request of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). According to BNPT, those websites promoted radical teachings and ideology.
The decision has triggered criticism. In social media, even the netizens discredited Jokowi-Kalla’s government as anti-Islam.
In previous administration of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Tifatul Sembiring, who at that time served as Minister of Communication & Information, ever claimed to block 300 websites identified promoting radical teachings and ideology. Tifatul, however, did not reveal the list of said 300 websites.
Tifatul is a politician from PKS, a muslim-based political party which is now one of members of the KMP. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
