JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and a coalition of four political parties affiliated to President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo have backed a plan to nominate a DPD member as the Speaker of the 2014-2019 People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), two deputies from Jokowi’s coalition and two other deputies from Prabowo Subianto’s Red-and-White coalition.
Both DPD and Jokowi coalition view the win win package would resolve polarization between Prabowo and Jokowi’s coalition. They hope the package will be accepted by MPR members through a consensus decision making in the MPR plenary session on Tuesday (Oct. 7).
PDI-P’s key leader Puan Maharani said that the two deputies of MPR Speaker from Jokowi’s coalition come from PDI-P and PKB.
DPD members, meanwhile, have fully agreed to nominate Oesman Sapta Odang as Speaker candidate of the MPR.
On the other side, Prabowo’s Red-and-White coalition still insists to propose its own package comprises of the MPR Speaker candidate from President SBY’s Democratic Party, three deputies from the Red-and-White coalition, and one deputy from DPD member.
