JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The ruling Democratic Party remains in a limbo after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), in his capacity as Chairman of Democratic Party, floating any option of coalition ahead of July’s presidential election.

In his speech at the Democratic Party’s primary on Sunday (april 27), SBY said Democratic Party has not yet decided to support any presidential nominee. He said Democratic Party will only possibly to entering a coalition with other parties with similar platforms.

SBY also stressed that if Democratic Party failed to form a coalition, then Democratic Party would be prepared for being an opposition.

Today (April 28), Koran Tempo quoted statement from Jero Wacik, key leader from the Democratic Party, revealed that SBY actually wants to meet former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, patron chief and Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

The Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources said that SBY wants to meet Megawati to discuss the possibility of a coalition.

Syarief Hasan, another key leader of Democratic Party and Minister of Cooperatives & Small-Medium Enterprises, also shared similar statement.

But unfortunately, according to both Jero and Syarief, Megawati has not yet answered SBY’s request for the meeting. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
