SURABAYA (Yosefardi) – About 14 Indonesians have died after drinking new homemade poisonous alcohol in the East Java province.
Police have detailed six retailers of the alcohol locally known as ‘cukrik’. While drinking alcohol is considered sinful under Islamic law, homemade brews tend to be cheap and available in Wonokromo area, East Java.
The retailers have yet to be named suspects. “This (cukrik) is new type supplied to others. We’re investigating the case and suppliers,” said Manang Soebeti, police chief of Sawahan, East Java.
Police identified Dani Kumbara as the 14th victim of cukrik. Depressed after divorce, Dani consumed cukrik before found death by his family members early this morning.
Seven people were earlier found dead after consuming cukrik last Saturday and Monday in East Java.
