JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The future of troubled state owned PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines is now in the hand of state management company PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset (PPA).

This statement was made by The Minister of State Owned Enterprises (SOE’s) Dahlan Iskan on Tuesday (July 23).

According to Dahlan, PPA will have the full authority for Merpati’s restructuring in order to save the airlines from mounting debt.

He added PPA in the future will also entitle to make any modification in the director’s board and commissioner.
“I will sign any PPA’s decision, as long as it does not burn (the company down),” said Dahlan as quoted by Viva News.

Merpati is reportedly in the threat of bankruptcy with Rp6.5 trillion debts. Dahlan explained that he have tried everything in order to save the company including trying to sell the airline to the private party.

Dahlan, however, is pessimistic that there will be anyone interested to purchase the troubled airlines.
