JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Constitutional Court is expected, on Thursday (Jan. 23), to rule on the long-delayed judicial review of the Presidential Election Law No. 42/2008 filed by Effendi Gazali Cs.
According to the official site of the court, www.mahkamahkonstitusi.go.id, the verdict trial will be held at around 3:30 pm of Jakarta time Thursday (Jan 23).
In the meantime, Effendi Gazali has decided to cancel his plan to revoke his judicial review request as reported earlier. Effendi had criticized the court for postponing the verdict trial.
Effendi Cs had filed their request to the court last year. The court itself has actually finished the trial of Effendi Cs’ judicial review request since Mar. 13, 2013.
Effendi Cs is basically demanding that the legislative and presidential elections must be held simultaneously and each eligible political party or a coalition of eligible political parties as a contestant of the elections could nominate its presidential and vice presidential candidates before the election.
In a related progress, the court on Tuesday (Jan. 22) has kicked off the first trial of judicial review request against the Presidential Election Law filed by Yusril Ihza Mahendra. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
