JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Presiding judge Ahmad Khusairi at the Central Jakarta District Court has on Thursday (July 9) rejected a pre-trial petition filed by former Mayor of Makassar Ilham Arief Sirajuddin against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The court, therefore, upholding the KPK’s decision on naming Ilham as a graft suspect.

Previously, Ilham won a pre-trial petition against the KPK at the South Jakarta District Court in early June 2015. The Court concluded that KPK’s decision to name Ilham as a graft suspect is illegitimate due to lack of evidences.

But a few days later, KPK decided to rename Ilham as a graft suspect in the same Rp38.1 billion corruption case of the Makassar PDAM tap water company. Ilham, however, once again filed a pre-trial petition to challenge KPK’s decision.

Ilham served as Makassar Mayor for two periods (2004-2009 and 2009-2014). He is Chairman of the Democratic Party’s South Sulawesi chapter. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
