JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Hamdan Zoelva has rejected to undergo interview session with the selection committee of new Constitutional Court justice established by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The interview session is a part of selection process conducted by the selection committee.
Hamdan, in its letter to the selection committee, explained his rejection to undergo interview session. The letter is also sent to President Jokowi.
Hamdan denied that his rejection is related to the recent rejection from the Constitutional Court over two experts, Todung Mulya Lubis and Refly Harun, in the selection committee.
He argued that he has conducted similar process when he was elected as Constitutional Court justice back on Jan. 5, 2010. The letter was also sent to President Jokowi.
Hamdan, therefore, lets the decision to the selection committee and the President to either keep or to eliminate him from the selection process.
As reported earlier, 15 justice candidates, including Hamdan Zoelva, participate in the selection process of new Constitutional Court justice conducted by the selection committee. The committee will later elect one out of 15 justice candidates to replace Hamdan, who will end his tenure on Jan. 5, 2015.
Hamdan is one of three government-nominated justices. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
